Rahab, a prostitute or innkeeper, had an active role as a heroine hiding two spies and saving her family in the battle of Jericho. Interestingly her heroic actions in the story are outside of any sexual role. Written circa 1400 BC, is she the first heroine in all of ancient literature? Any other examples that are not goddesses (for example in Gilgamesh which is generally accepted to be written earlier)?
